Important reminder about automatic claims rollover for BlueSaver accounts

When a customer chooses to pair an Independence Blue Cross (IBC) health plan with a BlueSaver^SM Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Reimbursement Account (HRA), they have the option to integrate health plan administration with the health account fund through the "automatic claims rollover" feature.

What is automatic claims rollover?

With automatic claims rollover, the member liability portion of claims (e.g., copayment, deductible, or coinsurance) is automatically transferred from the health plan to the BlueSaver FSA or HRA for processing. If funds are available in the member's account, the member receives a reimbursement check. If direct deposit has been elected, reimbursement is deposited in the member's designated bank account.

When your customer chooses the automatic claims rollover feature, or "autoroll," members are not required to submit a paper claim for reimbursement from their health account. Without this feature, members will need to submit paper claims for reimbursement.

Is autoroll available for all services and expenses?

No. The automatic claims rollover feature is not available for all claim types. For example, automatic claims rollover is not available for services that are capitated, because providers don't typically submit a claim for these services. Additional examples of services that can not be processed through automatic claims rollover are shown below.

Automatic claims rollover is not available for:

• capitated services;
• integrated prescription drug expenses;
• dental or vision expenses;
• non-covered services;.
• dependent care expenses (e.g., child daycare, before-and-after school programs).

If automatic claims rollover does not apply, members must submit a paper claim form with a receipt to receive reimbursement for qualified expenses.

Automatic claims rollover is available for:

• medical expenses;
• HMO and PPO Rx Rider and freestanding prescription drug expenses.

If automatic claims rollover applies, members do not need to pay up front, submit a paper claim form, or wait for reimbursement for qualified expenses.
